I grew up in Nova Scotia, Canada, where I trained classically through the Royal Conservatory of Music. After earning my B.A. in Music in 1995, I moved to Detroit and have worked as a full-time musician ever since.
I’m a Detroit Music Award nominee for Outstanding Keyboardist and have toured extensively, opening for major artists like Sheryl Crow, Daughtry, and Darius Rucker. I’ve performed as a piano entertainer in more than 40 states and internationally, and I currently tour with Uncle Kracker.
I’m passionate about helping you unlock your pop/rock piano potential with lessons designed for real-world playing and enjoyment.

"Marc is wonderful! Extremely clear, yet personable and funny. One thing I really liked was the clarity of the method; the connections Marc draws to things we already know in popular culture and the building clearly from simple to more complex. Fantastic instructor, very inspiring and motivating."
Pop, rock, blues, country, and any non-classical styles that focus more on using your ear and improvisation.
No, reading music is not required. Some basic notation can help, but I focus on practical playing skills. Students may prefer to learn by ear, or by using chord charts and other instructional materials that do not require reading sheet music.
It would be helpful to have some familiarity with playing the piano and some chord knowledge already, as most of the concepts we’ll discuss are aimed at helping intermediate players level up their game. HOWEVER, that isn't completely necessary. If you’re an ambitious beginner who wants to work with me…let’s go!
Absolutely. We’ll work on technique, improvisation, groove, and more to take your playing to the next level.
I focus on the theory and techniques that pop and rock piano players actually use — riffs, grooves, chord progressions, and improvisation. Each lesson is customized to your style, skill level, and musical interests. You’ll get practical strategies and real-time feedback you can apply immediately to the songs you love.
Here’s some of what you’ll learn:
- How to use chord charts and learn songs without relying on sheet music
- Create fuller, richer arrangements with chord voicings and fills
- Jam and improvise with confidence
- Accompany singers or other instruments smoothly
- Understand the building blocks of pop, rock, blues, and country piano styles
